The OCB is an all-natural bodybuilding organization solely committed to drug free competition. All competitors must be drug free and compliant with the WADA Anti-Doping Code.
Pre-Competition Screenings:
All participants are required to pass drug test screenings prior to competitions. Screening test results from amateur OCB shows can be honored for other amateur OCB shows held within three weeks from the contest date. OCB Pros are required to undergo pre-competition screenings at every OCB Pro show, regardless of how recently they may have been screened. The cost for screening is $60 at all OCB events, which is made payable to the examiner at the time of testing.
Pre-competition screenings are used since many substances are not detectable in urine. For example, most anabolic steroids and other banned substances are no longer detectable in urine within a month or two from last use, and growth hormone is not detected in routine sports panel urine testing. This process assists the OCB by screening out participants who may have recently used or timed the use of banned substances. For these reasons, urinalysis testing cannot be used as a substitute for pre-competition screenings, nor can urinalysis testing be used to overturn a failed pre-competition screening.
Urinalysis Testing:
In addition to pre-competition drug test screenings, pro-qualifying placement winners at all OCB amateur events, cash-prize placement winners in all OCB pro divisions, and athletes selected randomly for testing must pass a urinalysis drug test. The cost for urinalysis testing is paid for by the OCB and its promoters. Every tested athlete receives their official lab results within 4-8 weeks.
Athletes, like all others, may have illnesses or conditions that require them to take particular medications. If the medication an athlete is required to take to treat an illness or condition happens to fall under the WADA prohibited list, a therapeutic use exemption may give that athlete the authorization to take the needed medicine.
NOTE: Requests for an exemption must be submitted at least 10 days prior to competition. A request for an exemption does not equate to approval.
CRITERIA FOR AN EXEMPTION ARE:
1. The athlete would experience significant health problems without taking the prohibited substance or method.
2. The therapeutic use of the substance would not produce significant enhancement of performance.
3. There is no reasonable therapeutic alternative to the use of the otherwise prohibited substance or method.
NOTE: Any prescribed substance MUST also be FDA approved for treatment in order for a waiver to be granted. It is up to the user to verify FDA approval prior to taking any substance for treatment purposes.
Persons (male or female) using Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) are NOT eligible for OCB competitions. Supplementing with prescribed testosterone in any form to raise testosterone levels due to natural decreases that occur with aging (even if to elevate levels to be within ‘normal’ ranges), is NOT considered a medicinal exception for competition and will NOT be approved.
Estrogen and Progesterone are permitted for female competitors. Testosterone waivers for females undergoing menopause related symptoms will not be accepted.
